History Notes: Institutions and Details
These companies were located in three corners of India - Bengal, Bombay and Madras.
1) Bangabha public meeting
It started with the help of Raja Ram Mohan Roy's associates in 1836.
Raja Ram Mohan Roy was the first political activist in the modern sense.
He started the movement to demand higher government offices in India, the Press of Freedom, Rights Resistance of Rights etc.
2) Zamindari Association (Bengal Landholders Society)
In 1836, it was formed by Premya Kumar Tagore, Dwarkanath Tagore and Radhakanta Dev.
The main purpose of the organization is to protect zamindar's interests.
They used the constitutional method of movement to fulfill their demands.
3) British India Society
In 1843, William Adam, the friend of Raja Ram Mohan Roy, established the organization in England.
The aim of this organization was to improve the situation of the Indians to inform Indians about the difficult situation that the British Indians had with the British people.
They used constitutional and legal means to achieve this goal.
4) British India Association
The Bengal Landhodder Society and the British India Society merged together to form the British India Association in 1851.
In the merger post, they used to submit petitions for common people's complaints too.
· He filed a petition to the British Parliament with suggestions from the company's new Charter Act. The suggestions were - a different legislative council of popular nature, eradication of tickets, salt and abkari duties, reducing the salary of British officers on high posts etc.
· In the charter act of 1853, one of the above mentioned suggestions was included and was expanded by adding 6 new members to the general purpose council of the state.
However, the organization was not able to enter the country through its branches, primarily due to the lack of creative political policy.
· After the rebellion of 1857, the organization supported the British in harsh punishments for the rebels.
5) Indian League
· In 1875, famous journalist Sisir Kumar Ghosh started Indian League in Calcutta.
Its main objective was to develop a sense of nationalism among the common people.
6) Calcutta Indian Association (Indian National Association)
The Indian League was formed in 1876 by the young Bengali nationalists of Anand Mohan Bose and Surendranath Banerjee and the Calcutta Indian Association of Indian National Association).
· The British India Association's supporters' homeowner policies and conservative attitudes were the source of discontent among young Bengali, due to which this organization was formed.
The demand of the Calcutta Indian Association was nationalist in nature, which makes it one of the most important pre-Congress nationalist organizations.
Reforms and uniting public opinion on the political issues of national importance, improvement of civil services.
· They opened branches in different cities to increase their membership among the public.
Surendranath Banerjee was the first Indian to achieve all the popularity of India when he traveled to get support for the demand of India's visit.
This organization was later merged with the Indian National Congress.
7) East India Association
Dadabhai Navraji started the East India Association in London in 1867.
· The main goal of the Association was to make the people of Britain aware about the conditions of India and to create a popular support among the British people for Indian welfare.
This union is also called the predecessor of the Indian National Congress.
· In 1866, London's Ethnological Society tried to prove to the Asian people at least the European people. The work of the East India Association also aimed to challenge this perception.
The Association opened branches in 1869 in Bombay, Madras and Calcutta
8) Bombay Association (Bombay Native Association)
In 1852, Jagannashankarshath along with the Bombay Association, Sir Jamshedjijibhai, Jagannath Shankar, Nauroji Farusungi, Dr. Chaudaji Lad, started with Dadabhai Naoroji and Vinayak Shankarsheth.
It is also called the first political party / organization in Bombay province.
They also wanted to address public grievances through legal agitation mediums.
9) Poona Sarvajanik Sabha
It was started in 1870 by Mahadev Govind Ranade and his colleagues in Pune.
· They aim to become the target of linking between the government and the common people.
It also works for the legal rights of farmers.
Many prominent leaders of the freedom struggle like Lokmanya Tilak were members of this organization.
10) Bombay Presidency Association
· The association was started in 1885 by FaroShah Mehta, Badruddin Tayabji and Katie Telang.
It was formed against Ilbert Bill and Liton's other reactionary policies.
11) Madras Basic Union
Created by Gazulukshimirmasu Chetty in Madras Presidency in 1849
It was the first political organization in Madras.
12) Madras Mahajan Sabha
It was in 1884 in Madras, B. Subramaniyyar, P. Anand-Charlu and M. Was formed by Virevachavacharya.
The organization initially adopted a moderate approach to opposing government policies.
