The Union Public Service Commission organizes the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination every year, which is common for all the candidates applying for Civil Services Examinations and Indian Forest Service Examinations. This examination serves as the primary mechanism for the selection of candidates for the Civil Services (Main) Examination.

Since the exam only works as a screening test; The candidates will not be computed to determine the final order of merit of the result of the marks obtained in the preliminary examination. One should keep in mind that the number of candidates admitted in the main examination will be fourteen to fifteen times about the total estimated number of vacancies in the various services and posts in the year. The Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2019 (Objective) will be held on June 2, 2019. The main examination (written) will start from 9th September 29, 2019.

What is the course for Civil Services Preliminary Examination (2019)?

The Civil Services Preliminary Examination consists of two compulsory papers for 200 marks (General Study Paper I and General Studies Paper II). Questions will be of many options, objective types. Points in the priorities will be counted for the final ranking, but not only for qualification for the main exam.

Paper 1 - General Studies:


It includes such areas; Indian National Movement, Indian Politics, Basic Economic Understanding, Geography Although these are the stable parts of the curriculum, the dynamic part consists of current affairs, common knowledge and it is not a proper definition, thus making the curriculum a lot bigger.

Paper II - Eligibility Test:


Paper II is dynamic in nature and includes mathematics, logic, analytical ability and interpersonal skills. All these areas require spot mental ability.
Paper II is now of merit nature and its mark is calculated when making a merit list. However, it is compulsory for the candidate to score minimum 33 percent in this paper for qualifying the prelims exam.

The question papers are set in both Hindi/ English. The dark candidates are allowed twenty minutes extra time for each paper.
